Where is our public interest?

Its raining today and I can't cycle to work. So I took my usual SBS Transit bus to work this morning and have to wait for 20 mins for my bus to arrive. Did I ever mentioned that my ride to office is the same time I waited for my bus? :)

Anyway, on the bus I saw the new law that inform us "the passengers" not to cheat with our fares or else we get seriously fined....

I wonder. Our gahment (most gahment actually, even in Thailand) enact such laws to protect these corporations rather than the other way round. What happened to our public interest. I mean its ok to have such laws in place but Public Transport is a necessity service, especially for those who can't afford a car or for other various reasons. So where are the laws that protect the passengers (or the consumers who paid for the service?)

Here's my list of fines that can be issued to SBS transit.

Fines for
1) Buses that has no air-con but charge air-conditioned prices.
2) Buses that are late in schedule
3) Buses that are not clean and smells
4) Buses that are leaky while it rains
5) Buses that are clearly overloaded with passengers and yet still try to pick up more.
6) Buses that overcharge the EZ-link card.
6) Bus drivers that are rude and breaks harshly
and etc....

Please don't give excuses for not implementing these hor. Since you already have resources to "patrol" these buses and give certain power to the inspectors to issue such fines. So at the meantime since we have no people "patrolling" or really "monitoring" for us. (Please don;t say LTA is monitoring, i doubt they ever take buses to work). WE as a consumer has the absolute right to not pay for such rides in full price as the service is not up to standard. This is a win-win solution.

And yes, I will not pay full price (tap my EZ-link card earlier) to deny these corporation. I have no problem paying full-price, so long its up to my standard. You want to fine me, I will fight all the way to the court room.

You heard that SBS Transit and LTA?

Going back on 7/7

Wow, its been more than 2 weeks since my last post. Nothing eventful during that period of time seriously. Most of the time I work 12 hours shift and shacked off once I reach back. I don't even feel like turning on my computer since I faced another one at the office. The dread of staring at the computer screen is a bit daunting to me now. I really miss the natural surroundings I have in Maesai.

Definitely need a break and I missed my wife and baby too much liao. I can't wait till August so I planned a week trip back to Thailand in July 7th. Already informed my boss and he's ok about it. Yeah!!!

Work is heavy due to the increase in job scope and decrease in man-power. Just recently for the pass 2 months, 3 guys have left the job and although 2 more new comers are under training. It'll take some time for them to get accustomed to the job. (I'm still learning even after 2 month's work). Moreover there is a great increase of workload. Basically now we are still short of 4 people (10 person doing a 14 person work). And the worst is one of the colleague is quite jialat... definitely will write about her one day.

Getting in touch.

Skype video call is one of the best way to communicate with my wife and girl. Technology really helps a lot in getting in touch with love ones. I just can't stand the thought of the old days when Internet is unavailable and people get to leave their family to work. I already find it damn hard to cope (even with phone calls and skype video conference). I really feel lucky and actually much contended that I was born in this era. Kudos to our forefathers who left China (and their family) and came to Singapore to work and settle. My current situation is nothing compared to their hardship they faced and their longing of returning to their home town.

More Infrared photos

I had a 3 day break recently and took a half a day yesterday to visit the new Henderson Wave bridge at Mt Fabour park.

I brought along my IR modded Sony A100 with a 20mm f/2.8 prime and went shooting. Its been almost a month since I last held a camera and shoot seriously.

Here's some results of that shoot. You could see more at my facebook photo album.

My new bike.

Ok. I think some of you guys following my blog knows that I cycled to work. But my mountain bike is heavy and big and I constantly worried that it will get stolen (lots of factory workers and foreign workers at Kaki Bukit). Thus it crossed my mind one day to get a bike that is fold able, so I could carry it into my office.

Surprised to find that actually foldies are actually a hit in SG already. Anyway, went to a local foldie forum and saw this little gem. Its called Strida bike. I actually want to get the version 3.3 (cheaper) but I am sold on the disc brakes and aluminium frame and paid 300 more for the version 5.0.

The shop is at Lavendar. The husband and wife who owns the shop showed me various ways of folding and unfolding the bike. It actually is the easiest to fold among the few foldies they are selling in their shop. They are also very friendly and actually asked me for my riding style and preference before recommending me the Strida. So I bought it on the spot and immediately took a ride on it to Lavendar MRT. It may look flimsy in the pictures you see but it actually is very sturdy. You need to get a bit used to it though as just a small arm movement will cause it to swerve. The idea is to relax your arms a bit...

I got onto the train and a lot of people just looked at my new bike... hehehe... Got off at Kembangan and rode home. Very pleasant ride and although its only 1-speed, it is takes little effort to climb slopes as the front gear is huge!

Highly recommended for those who wants to stop using feeder services or even buses.
